For those who prefer less energetic, the
are all kinds of possibilities nearby:
Cartagena (10
km), a city with a history going back several
thousand years, has archaeological remains from the
Carthaginian, Roman and Byzantine periods. There are
several museums, together with many buildings and sites
of special cultural interest. There is a weekly programme
of theatre, dancing and music and in July it is the
venue for the famous International Festival La
Mar de Músicas. The elaborate Religious Processions
through the streets during each day of Holy Week are
among the finest in Spain. The Fiesta of the Carthaginians
and Romans, which takes place in September, is recognised
internationally. Cartagena also offers an interesting
gastronomic experience. For those who like a shopping
spree, there are many opportunities, from big department
stores to small shops offering local specialities. All
this within 15 minutes of El Portus...
Murcia (50km),
the capital of the Region, offers historic, artistic
and cultural experiences every bit as good as those
in Cartagena. There are fiestas whose origins are lost
in history and the food is possibly the best in the
whole of the middle part of south-east Spain...
It is impossible to mention here all the
many fascinating places, towns and cities less than
an hour away. We suggest you should click on some of
the links offered on this page...
